Wood and Iron Fence Installation in Sacramento

Wood privacy panels framed in welded steel posts and rails, so you get the warm look of wood with a structure that won't sag, lean, or rot at the base. Built and installed by our own Sacramento crew.

A wood and iron combination fence solves the problem every Sacramento homeowner runs into with all-wood fencing: wood posts that twist, lean, and rot out at the soil line after a few hot summers and wet winters. At Iron-Caz Fencing we set galvanized steel posts and weld a steel frame for the rails, then infill with wood pickets or panels. The steel does the structural work; the wood does the privacy and the look.

We fabricate these frames in our own Sacramento shop, so the posts, brackets, and rails are sized to your fence line and finished before they ever reach your yard. That means tight, square panels, consistent spacing, and a powder-coated or galvanized steel skeleton that shrugs off the moisture and UV that destroy ordinary wood fences in the Valley.

How it's built

Wood Panels in a Welded Steel Frame

The whole point of a wood-and-iron fence is to separate the job the wood does from the job the steel does. Steel posts are set in concrete and a welded top and bottom rail carry the load, while cedar or redwood pickets sit inside that frame. Nothing structural is touching the dirt, so there is no rotten post to dig out in five years.

Because we weld the frames in-house, we can match the panel height, picket gap, and post spacing to your exact property line and grade, including stepped or raked runs on Sacramento's sloped lots.

  • Galvanized steel posts set in concrete footings, not wood 4x4s
  • Welded steel top and bottom rails that carry the panel weight
  • Cedar or redwood pickets and panels for privacy and natural color
  • Powder-coat or hot-dip galvanized finish on all steel to resist rust
  • Stepped or raked layouts to follow sloped and uneven yards

Why it lasts here

Built for the Sacramento Valley Climate

Sacramento punishes fences. Summer afternoons over 100 degrees dry out and crack wood, then winter rain swells it and rots untreated posts. An all-wood fence absorbs all of that stress at its weakest point, the post base. Putting the wood inside a steel frame moves the load to a material that doesn't care about the weather.

The steel frame also keeps panels straight. Wood will still expand and contract seasonally, but it can't drag the whole fence into a lean because the steel posts and rails hold the line. The result is a fence that stays plumb and square long after a stick-built fence would be sagging between posts.

  • No wood-to-soil contact, so posts won't rot at the base
  • Steel frame prevents the seasonal sag and lean common to all-wood fences
  • Rust-resistant finishes chosen for hot, dry summers and wet winters
  • Wood infill can be re-stained or replaced without rebuilding the structure
  • Stronger against wind and impact than a standard wood fence

Options & details

Privacy, Style, and Combination Designs

Wood-and-iron fencing is flexible. You can run full-privacy panels with no gaps, leave a small reveal between pickets for airflow, or do a horizontal slat look in the steel frame for a more modern street face. Many homeowners pair a privacy backyard run with a more decorative iron front fence so the two styles tie together.

We can also build matching wood-and-iron gates, both walk gates and driveway gates, on the same steel framing so they hang true and don't drag. Everything is fabricated and installed by our own crew, never subcontracted.

  • Full-privacy, spaced-picket, or horizontal slat infill options
  • Matching pedestrian and driveway gates on welded steel frames
  • Wood and iron pairings that coordinate with a decorative front fence
  • Choice of cedar or redwood and your preferred stain or natural finish
  • In-house fabrication and installation, no subcontractors

FAQ

Common questions

Why choose a wood and iron fence instead of an all-wood fence?

The steel posts and welded frame carry the load and never touch the soil, so the fence won't rot at the base or sag between posts the way a stick-built wood fence does. You keep the natural wood look but get a structure that lasts much longer in the Sacramento climate.

Can the wood be replaced later if it weathers?

Yes. Because the steel frame is the permanent structure, the wood pickets or panels can be re-stained or swapped out down the road without tearing out posts or rebuilding the fence. That's a major advantage over all-wood construction.

Do you build matching gates for a wood and iron fence?

We do. We fabricate walk gates and driveway gates on the same welded steel framing in our own shop, so they hang square and won't drag. We can also add automatic gate openers if you want a powered driveway gate.
