Iron Fence Repair in Sacramento
Re-welding, sagging gate fixes, rust removal and refinishing, plus gate operator repair — handled by our own welders, not subcontractors.
An iron fence that's been standing through a few Sacramento summers and wet winters usually fails in predictable places: cracked welds at the picket-to-rail joints, posts that have loosened in the soil, and surface rust bubbling up under old paint. Iron-Caz Fencing repairs all of it. Because we fabricate in our own shop and run our own welding crew, we can match an existing picket spacing, rail profile, or finial — spear, ball, or fleur — instead of leaving you with a patched section that looks nothing like the rest of the fence.
Owner Daniel Hernandez Cazares has spent 15+ years working iron and steel across the Sacramento Valley, so we know how the local climate eats at older fences and gates. Whether it's a single gate that won't latch anymore or a long run of railing that's rusted at the base, we'll come out, look at it in person, and give you a straight answer on what's worth repairing versus replacing. Free on-site estimates throughout Sacramento and roughly 80 miles out.

Re-Welding, Cracked Joints & Sagging Gate Repair
Most iron gate problems come down to weight and gravity. Over time the welds at the hinge side fatigue, the frame racks out of square, and the gate starts dragging on the latch post or the ground. We re-weld failed joints, add diagonal bracing or a turnbuckle where a frame needs to be pulled back square, and replace worn hinges with heavier-duty hardware so the fix actually lasts.
For fences, we cut out cracked or broken sections, re-weld pickets and rails, and reset or replace posts that have worked loose in the footing. Everything is welded on site by our own crew and ground smooth before refinishing.
- Re-welding cracked picket, rail, and frame joints
- Squaring and re-hanging sagging or dragging gates
- Heavy-duty hinge and latch hardware replacement
- Resetting loose posts and re-pouring failed footings
- Adding bracing or turnbuckles to stop future sag
Rust Removal, Prep & Refinishing
Surface rust on Sacramento-area iron usually starts low — at the post bases where sprinkler overspray hits, and along the bottom rail. Left alone it works under the paint and pits the metal. We grind and wire-wheel the corrosion back to clean steel, treat the bare metal, then refinish with a rust-resistant coating built to handle hot, dry summers and damp winters.
Where it makes sense, we can take removable gate panels or sections back to the shop for a more durable powder-coat or galvanized finish rather than a brush-on touch-up. We'll tell you honestly which approach fits your fence and budget.
- Grinding and wire-wheeling rust back to bare metal
- Spot repair or full strip-and-refinish
- Rust-inhibiting primer and weather-rated topcoat
- Shop powder-coating or galvanizing for removable sections
- Color matching to blend repaired areas with the existing fence
Gate Operator & Automatic Gate Repair
When an automatic driveway gate stops working, the operator often gets blamed when the real problem is mechanical — a dragging gate, a seized hinge, or a bent track throwing the motor off. We diagnose both sides: the steel and the operator. That means fixing the gate so it swings or slides freely first, then addressing the opener, safety photo-eyes, and wiring.
We service common swing and slide operators, replace worn rollers and tracks on sliding gates, and correct alignment so the system isn't fighting itself every cycle. If an operator is genuinely beyond repair, we'll recommend a suitable replacement instead of throwing parts at a dead unit.
- Diagnosing operator vs. mechanical gate faults
- Roller, track, and chain repair on sliding gates
- Hinge, post, and alignment fixes on swing gates
- Safety photo-eye and limit adjustment
- Operator and opener repair or replacement

Common questions
Can you repair just one section of my iron fence instead of replacing the whole thing?
Usually, yes. We routinely cut out and re-weld a single damaged section, reset one loose post, or rebuild one gate. Because we fabricate in-house, we can match your existing picket spacing and finial style so the repair blends in. We'll only recommend full replacement if the fence is corroded or damaged beyond a sound repair.
My automatic gate stopped opening — is that the operator or the gate?
It's often the gate, not the motor. A gate that drags, has a seized hinge, or a bent slide track will overload or trip the operator. We check the mechanical side first, free up the gate's movement, then test the operator, photo-eyes, and wiring before deciding whether the opener itself needs service or replacement.
How do you handle rust on an older iron fence?
We grind and wire-wheel the rust back to clean steel, treat the bare metal, then refinish with a rust-resistant coating suited to the Sacramento climate. For removable gates or panels, we can take them to our shop for a more durable powder-coat or galvanized finish rather than a brush-on touch-up.
